L.I.G.H.T.’S. Inspiration and Miraculous Creation

“L.I.G.H.T.” is an acronym for “Living In God’s Hands Today”.
“In these five words, God had given us a rule and direction for our lives”. God speaks to all of us at different times and in different ways. Some of us are led to Bible passages for answers, some actually hear God’s voice and for others, it’s through ideas or divine inspiration.

“L.I.G.H.T.” - Living In God’s Hands Today, is a dramatic audio series based on true-life spiritual experiences of ordinary people whose lives have been forever changed through the love and glory of God. This successful Christian radio drama aired across the country, and won an “Angel Award” for excellence in Christian broadcasting.

As a Christian, Harlan Rector was inspired one day to create a series of radio dramas called L.I.G.H.T. (Living in God’s Hands Today). This came about one morning when his radio/alarm clock woke him up and he heard a radio drama series titled, “Heartbeat Theatre”. Then a lightbulb suddenly went off. “That’s it”, he said, I’ll re-create true stories about how God works in the lives of His people. Later that week he called the radio station to ask when they would be broadcasting more ‘Heartbeat Theatre’ shows. The station manager looked in his radio log and said, “We quit broadcasting Heartbeat Theatre seven years ago”. Harlan was floored. How did he hear a radio show that was never broadcast? It was like an episode of the “Twilight Zone”.

Driving home from a meeting and thinking that these new radio dramas needed a name, out of nowhere he saw the word LIGHT on his windshield. As soon as he thought, LIGHT what a great word, I wonder what it means, God spoke to him, “Living In God’s Hands Today”. He was so excited while making a turn he almost drove off the road onto a golf course. On the commuter train to New York, one day, Harlan was inspired to write the lyrics for a song that would become the L.I.G.H.T. theme song. Knowing no musicians at the time, a friend gave him the name of his son’s guitar teacher, a hard rock musician named John Gerardi. So Harlan called him up only to find out that he had just recently given up rock and had switched his focus to Christian music.

When Harlan showed him the lyrics to L.I.G.H.T., John said, “You know, I have some music I’ve been working on that doesn’t have any lyrics yet, why don’t you come into my studio and I’ll play it for you”. John added his music to Harlan’s lyrics and astonishingly, they both fit together so perfectly, that not one note or word was changed. Another miraculous sign. Since Harlan was in the voice over business, he knew all the top performers, sound engineers and technicians and quickly realized his dream. He wrote and produced 38 original radio dramas that were broadcast on Christian Radio Stations across the country, eventually winning an “Angel Award” for excellence in Christian broadcasting.

Harlan’s son Jeff, a working actor and award winning filmmaker in Los Angeles, was inspired to turn the L.I.G.H.T. Radio Show into a weekly dramatic television series. The series Pilot Episode “The Bill Zdinak Story”, is full of God’s miracles and will be the catalyst to launch this inspirational new television series.

Also in development is the the Christian musical “A Taste Of Heaven” to be produced in theatrical venues across the country with a feature length film version of the production planned as well.
